World wide the Tri-Clover® fitting is still the most common sanitary coupling used in the pharmaceutical industry. Over the years many international standards have adopted this fitting. Examples of international standards are; DIN32676, ISO1127, SMS and BS4825. Most common is the OD tube ASME BPE standard, which the Tri-Clover® is based upon.
In general the flange outside diameters are interchangeable, however the internal diameter of each individual standard differs. This makes it sometimes difficult to determine which gasket is required. Always measure the internal diameter of a fitting when assessing the product to order. Do not measure “old” gaskets as they do change dimensionally after being in service for a while. The ID will get smaller because of deformation.
